Germany: The first in the world solar brewery to be built in Upper Bavaria

The first in the world solar brewery will be built in Upper Bavaria. The beverage equipment specialist Krones will install an ecological brewery equipment for Hofmühl-Brauery from Eichstaett. The contract on this affair was concluded at the drinktec fair in Munich, Krones AG company said on September 16.

The new solar equipment will care in particularly to heat water with solar power. "When brewing beer, large quantities of water must be heated", explained a Krones spokeswoman. Normally for this process, gas and oil are used as energy sources. In Eichstaett this will happen in the future with solar collectors. On the days without sufficient sunshine a large boiler with sufficient reserves will be kept ready

In a second step Photovolt equipment will supply the necessary energy for the brewery. Also the necessary cold, in order to cool the beer, is to be produced environmently-friendly.

“In maximum 10 years we want to operate our brewery with absolutely clean energy", announced the today's owner, Benno Emslander. He does not have any doubt that the concept will function. "We have in Eichstaett approximately 75 percent of the sun exposure of the Spanish Valencia."

Hofmuehl brewery was created in 1492 by prince bishop Wilhelm von Reichenau.
